There are so many ways to prepare coleslaw it will be hard to pick a favorite. Typically when you think of coleslaw shredded cabbage, carrots, red cabbage, onion, vinegar, and mayonnaise come to mind. This is just another way to use cabbage.

Don’t let this limit you to what can be made the possibilities are endless! Have you ever thought of adding fruit such as pineapple or apples to your coleslaw? If your body needs a good detox and help shedding a few extra pounds try our weight loss slaw recipe below. Maybe there is a luau party and you want to bring something unusual try our Hawaiian coleslaw recipe. Last if you have never tried a oriental slaw then you have no clue what you are missing out on.

 Detox slaw

Cabbage is very healthy for you, in this recipe you can substitute whatever you like.coleslaw


  • Cabbage or slaw mix
  • Lemon or Lime (try any exotic citrus)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Garlic
  • Cayenne (just for that little extra heat)

Mix all these ingredients together and either have this as your meal or a side. Note: Sometimes I have huge cravings for sweets so I will add a sugar substitute in also or a small drizzle of honey.

Hawaiian Coleslaw


  • 4 cups fresh, shredded green cabbage
  • 1 11 oz. can mandarin oranges
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger (try fresh)
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg (use freshly grated if you have it)
  • 1 tbsp. orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp. white pepper
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise or miracle whip

Add the first three ingredients with each other and toss. Take the remaining ingredients mix together, this will be your dressing. If you really want to get funky try adding mango, papaya, shredded coconut, etc.

Oriental slaw

In the past I have done various challenges to clean out my pantry and refrigerator. In the back of my pantry there is always ramen noodle soup and I thought this would be a great opportunity to get rid of it.


  • 4 Green onions (up to 5)

  • 1 pk (1-2 lb) slaw mix or
  • 8 tb Sunflower seeds
  • 1 c Sliced almonds; I usually
  • 3 pk Ramen noodles; any flavor


  • 4 tb Sugar
  • 1/2 c Oil
  • 1 ts Each salt
  • 1/2 ts Pepper
  • 6 tb Vinegar


Mix the first 5 ingredients with each other and toss. Take the dressing ingredients whisk it in a bowl or shake it in a cup. Pour over the slaw mix and serve.
